Malaysian oil rig transformed into a hotel

This is the abandoned oil rig that has been transformed into a scuba diving hotel.
THIS is the abandoned oil rig that has been transformed into a scuba diving hotel.
Seaventures Dive Rig Resort, located next to Mabul Island, Malaysia, is the perfect getaway for those looking to enjoy the sea breeze from the comfort of their hotel room.
The incredible site, previously used for oil and gas exploration, offers a range of diving experiences to guests who can enjoy a stay in one of 25 fully-furnished rooms as the rig.
It also boasts a movie room, a karaoke lounge and bar, pool tables, table tennis, a souvenir shop and a conference room.

There are 25 fully-furnished guest rooms on the rig.
It’s now used as a base for avid scuba divers.
The unique getaway even includes Wi-Fi access and can be accessed by either helicopter or boat.

Steve Dobson, who listed the stunning getaway on GoUnusual.com, said: “This giant exploration jack-up rig was once commissioned for oil and gas exploration.
“Now at the end of its commercial life, rather than being scrapped and turned into baked bean tins, it’s been converted into the Seaventures Dive Rig.
“Unique in the world, the rig offers PADI five star IDC courses and is a fantastic base to learn to dive, gain additional qualifications and enjoy the underwater environment.
“Accommodation is in an air-conditioned four berth dormitory or standard twin and double rooms that offer clean bedding and privacy.

The former rig now has a movie room, a karaoke lounge and bar, pool tables, table tennis, a souvenir shop and a conference room.
Wake up and plunge straight into the surrounding waters for spectacular diving.

“They additionally offer the option of a more spacious cabin suite, however for most guests, the attraction is not the rooms — it is that your dive site is only a short walk downstairs.

“After your dive, the rig offers a games room, sundeck and bar.
“As well as a weekly barbecue, they organise music nights to the dive masters’ own band, The Sea Gypsies.”
Prices at the hotel start from AUD$300 per night.

It’s not your typical stay in Malaysia but if quirky is what you’re after then this is it.
You don’t go here for the hotel rooms, it’s all about the access to diving.
The dive master will take you to secret sites exclusive to hotel guests.
