NO means no. When UK comic Luisa Omielan says “No”, she
means it.
When Omielan
says “NO” she won’t cut the rape references from her show because of one bossy,
misguided heckler we all say yes.
It’s her show,
her call, Omielan owned it on Friday night at the Swiss Club.
A patron
repeatedly yelled “Skip to the next joke” and Omielan’s comeback was dynamite:
“When you buy a ticket to my show, you’re gonna get what I give you....it’s not
a buffet.”
Context is
everything, a lot of online warriors are having a crack at comedians when,
really, unless you’re in the room on the night you’re only working from Chinese
whispers. WHOOPS, RACISM.
Segue, Nazeem
Hussain writes and performs excellent material about ‘Strayan racism and this
year his show Legally Brown is selling out nightly. He’s had to add an extra
show on Saturday April 18 at 9.15pm at Melbourne Town Hall.
Hussain’s buddy
Matt Okine has put together a stunning hour in The Other Guy, a show that will
make your eye bags puff up like his nipples. Okine has the best Teppanyaki
reference of the festival too.
There’s lots of
buzz for Fancy Boy, Joel Creasey, Helen Duff, Trygve Wakenshaw and Paul Foot
too. In fact, Paul Foot may mount a case for the Barry Award with his
incongruously titled Hovercraft Symphony in Gammon # Major.
