Australia vs India match report: Steve Smith and Mitchell Johnson tear Indians apart to set-up Cricket World Cup final against New Zealand

Australia have reached the Cricket World Cup for the seventh time in their history after sealing an impressive 95-run victory over India at the Sydney Cricket Ground, meaning they will face fierce rivals New Zealand as the two co-hosts battle it out for the top honours.
Australia got off to a flying start as opener Aaron Finch anchored the innings early on with 81 runs coming off 116 balls, but it was the fireworks produced by Steve Smith that really got the home crowd cheering with the belief that they were on course for yet another final appearance.
Smith, having come to the crease after David Warner was caught by Virat Kohli off the bowling of Unesh Tadav for 12, hit a wonderful century off just 89 balls, and he was finally dismissed 10 balls later when caught by Rohit Sharma off Yadav for a magnificent 105.
Australia failed to push on after their strong start though, with Glenn Maxwell, Shane Watson, Michael Clarke and James Faulkner all reaching double figures, only to fall cheaply as India tried to build some pressure. Mitchell Johnson's late cameo of 27 off just 9 balls did help towards the end though, and the Aussies registered an imposing target of 329 after finishing their innings on 328-7 from their 50 overs.

India threatened an incredible run chase - it would have to be a record innings if they were to reach the final - with both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan making solid starts, but when Josh Hazlewood and Johnson struck respectively to dismiss both openers inside two runs, India's innings began to unravel.

Ajinkya Rahane and captain MS Dhoni offered some resistance, but Mitchell Starc continued his impressive performances to dismiss the former while Dhoni was run-out for 65 off the same number of balls when India were chasing the game.
It fell to the tailenders to try and salvage a result from the impossible, but Australia ensured there would be no late dramatics as the wickets of Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Sharma and Yadav fell for the addition of just two runs to seal the 95-run victory.

The final takes place on Sunday morning, and will feature the two co-hosts of the 2015 World Cup in the first final not to feature an Asian side since 1992. They met in the group stages, where the Black Caps secured a thrilling one-wicket victory.
